Setting Up your modem on MacOS 8 or 9

Step 1:

Click on the Apple Menu and select Control Panels and then Modem - Select this link to see a screen shot

Step 2:

In the Modemfield select the type of modem installed in your computer (or connected externally), it is easier to troubleshoot problems if for Sound you select On but if you do want to turn off the modem sound select Off instead, for Dialing select Tone, leave Ignore dial tone unchecked, and then click the box in the top right hand corner of the window.
